Washable Coatings
For certain polymers used in electronics processes, their amorphous property must remain unchanged without crosslinking during thermal processing. Water Wash Technologies offers a range of washable coatings removed by neutral and alkaline driven cleaning. Providing washable options that are linked to pH allow customers to design systems that are resistant to water, allowing slicing and polishing to occur without challenge to the protective layer. When the process is complete, a simple aqueous cleaning agent washes the coating clean once a specific pH is reached.
During laser processing, surface protection requires the application of a simple washable coating and rinsing after laser processing, removing debris from the heat activation zone (HAZ). Our products are based upon polymer chemistries not susceptible to thermal crosslinking. We discouraged the use of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) due to their formation of thermally induced insoluble residues. Water Wash Technologies offers coatings which are cast by means of evaporative or UV cure. Curing and washing occurs in seconds.
Washable coatings are attractive for manufacturing for reasons of simplicity, safety and cost reduction. Whether it be cleaning with water or detergents, these chemistries are non-flammable, non-toxic, and do not generate evaporative material to trigger air permit requirements.
